FACULTY KUDOS

The current issue of the Journal of Midwifery and Women's Health includes two articles by FNU Faculty.

Dr. Kathryn Osborne's nationwide study of CNM/CM care practices during the second stage of labor. Her paper is titled, Directive Versus Supportive Approaches Used by Midwives When Providing Care During the Second Stage of Labor. This nationwide survey of midwives (CNMs and CMs) demonstrated that midwives used predominately supportive approaches when assisting a woman during second stage. This paper is the lead paper in the journal and was also featured in this week's ACNM "Quicknews." The paper can be accessed by clicking HERE.

Also featured in the journal is Dr. Tia Andrighetti's study of using simulation to train midwifery students how to manage the life-thretening clinical issues of shoulder dystocia and postpartum hemorrhage. Dr. Andrighetti and colleagues (including our own Drs. Knestrick and Marowitz) demonstrated that the use of simulation significantly increases student confidence in managing these emergent complications. The paper is titled, "Shoulder Dystocia and Postpartum Hemorrhage Simulations: Student Confidence Managing their Complications." The paper can be accessed by clicking HERE.

Congratulations and thanks to these researchers for conducting and publishing such meaningful work. Their findings that will have such an important impact on clinical practice and advancing midwifery.
